Our Mission Statement

To provide quality eye care to patients, in a professional yet
compassionate manner, in order to help improve and or
maintain their visual quality of life.

Dr Robert Daniel

Dr Robert Daniel is a Specialist Ophthalmologist with more than 15 years’ experience who runs the Sandton Eye Clinic and specialises in anterior segment surgery. He also has training in Human Physiology and Neuroscience, which enables him to diagnose and treat both physical and neurological conditions affecting the eye.

After qualifying as a Specialist Ophthalmic Surgeon, Dr Daniel completed his mentorship under the renowned Ophthalmologist and medical innovator, Dr Percy Amoils.

Dr Daniel’s passion for eye health and preserving this vital sense inspires him to continually broaden his involvement in the eye care sector by developing and sourcing innovative technological solutions for various eye conditions. As a result of his understanding of human neurophysiology, combined with his knowledge of how the eye processes light, Dr Daniel invented SleepSpec – a range of amber-tinted glasses that filter out sleep-disturbing blue light, in order to help the body produce the sleep hormone melatonin, which is needed to maintain a healthy sleep pattern.

He is the CEO of Vitasight – a screening programme that uses macular screeners to assess the health of the macula. Depending on the outcome of the screening, supplements are provided to help slow the progression of age-related macular degeneration.

Dr Daniel has also brought the revolutionary instrument-based early vision technology Plusoptix  to South Africa. This is an easy-to-use, non-invasive, accurate screening solution that can be used to test young children’s eyes in a few seconds. A report is generated that indicates whether or not the child needs to go for further examination by a paediatric ophthalmologist.

In 2017, he launched Bonani – a charity that provides sight-saving eye screening to children in under-served communities, detecting vision defects early and, where needed, providing spectacles to affected children.

The professionals at Sandton Eye Clinic are compassionate, well-qualified and trained, and able to provide excellent patient care. They will gladly assist you by answering any questions you may have about treatment and are able to ensure you have all the necessary documentation and requirements for dealing with medical aid claims.
