Eye Surgery & overcoming limitations shared by Amber Jade

Amber's before and after PRK Journey at Sandton Eye Clinic

Before opting for vision correction eye surgery, I faced a multitude of challenges that stemmed from my vision impairment. These obstacles not only affected my daily comfort but also restricted my participation in various activities:

I constantly struggled with headaches and migraines, exacerbated by the strength of my prescription glasses and the extended hours I spent in front of a laptop screen. Additionally, the discomfort caused by my asymmetrical facial structure resulted in pain where my glasses pressed against the corner of my nose, leaving a permanent mark. Moreover, I felt constrained in my choice of sports and activities due to the limitations imposed by wearing glasses.

The Changes after eye surgery

However, the decision to undergo vision correction surgery marked a turning point in my life, and the immediate changes were unmistakable:

Comfort became my newfound luxury! The absence of glasses eliminated the strain on my eyes, providing a sense of relief that I hadn’t experienced in years. Furthermore, the newfound confidence that accompanied clearer vision was a welcome bonus.

The impact of clear vision on my activities and hobbies was profound:

I embraced a more active lifestyle, no longer feeling restricted by the need for glasses. Swimming became a joyous experience without the fear of water damaging contact lenses. I could exercise freely, unencumbered by the constant adjustments of slipping glasses during treadmill runs or wiping away sweat. Previously off-limits activities like go-karting became accessible, as the discomfort caused by helmets pressing against glasses was no longer an issue.

For those contemplating vision correction  eye surgery, my advice is straightforward: Do not hesitate to seek a consultation and explore your options. Waiting for a specific age or circumstance is unnecessary; the benefits of undergoing the procedure sooner rather than later far outweigh any concerns. Investing in clearer vision is an investment in a better quality of life.

Glasses remain a safe option as they do not involve any medical procedure. PRK is a lifestyle choice for those seeking unaided vision and may not be suitable if you are content with wearing glasses. Research suggests the cumulative risk of contact lenses may exceed that of LASIK.
